Home Energy Independence

Energy independence is a system-level goal. It usually requires understanding loads, generation, storage, resilience, and maintenance—not one magic component.

Home energy independence is not a single gadget. It is the degree to which a household can meet energy needs without relying continuously on the utility grid.

The five building blocks

  1. Loads: what you need to power.
  2. Efficiency: how much demand can be reduced.
  3. Generation: where electricity comes from.
  4. Storage: how supply and demand are shifted across time.
  5. Backup/control: how the system handles outages, low generation and faults.

Start with resilience, not slogans

A practical plan can be partial: protect critical loads, reduce bills, or add several hours of backup. Full off-grid operation is a much larger engineering and economic objective.
